Take off eh! - You hoser...

Take off, eh!

Anybody who has spent any length of time in Canada will have noticed how often Canadians say ‘eh’! It sounds the same as the letter ‘A’, as in gray, day, adn pay..

If you are familiar with “Huh” in American English, using ‘eh’ will be easy to learn as it is used similarly.

‘eh’ is used in two ways

1) ‘eh’ is used as a tag question, where the speaker already knows the answer. In a way, it is a way of making conversation.
Ex. Nice day, eh?
Gotta like them *Maple Leafs this season, eh? (meaning: that you must be happy with the good performance of the hockey team called the Maple Leafs, in this season).
Need a toque today, eh?
*Maple Leafe = Toronto's NHL ice hockey team.

2) ‘eh’ can also be used to mean “Pardon?” or “I don’t quite understand”.
“Would you parse that verb?”
“Eh?”

Bob: “Could you pass me the tetracycline.”
Doug: “Eh?”
